CORNERSTONE THERAPEUTIC NURSERY PROGRAMS
The primary goal of the Cornerstone Therapeutic Nursery Program is to increase the protective factors of attachment, self-control/emotional regulation, and initiative of children 2.5 to 5 years of age and their families. Services provided in the Cornerstone therapeutic nurseries are guided by current research in the fields of mental health, early childhood education, resiliency, trauma, and attachment. Therapists and teachers work collaboratively to ensure best practice by combining the fields of early childhood education and mental health.

The Cornerstone program operates with a combination of psychologists, early childhood educators, clinical social workers and psychology/social work interns, children and their families deliver therapeutic services via individual, dyadic, family, and group treatment. Committed to working with families as well as their children, the Cornerstone staff incorporate family work into all levels of the program. A strong emphasis is placed on parent-child work.

The children and families served in the program are referred by various community agencies including: the Department of Social Services (Mandated Preventive Services and Child Protective Services), Head Start Programs, Early Childhood Daycare Programs, School Districts, the Department of Community Mental Health, and other community based organizations. All children served fall under the category of Seriously Emotionally Disturbed and come to the Cornerstone program with significant risk factors that include, but are not limited to: extreme poverty, familial substance use, domestic violence, abuse, neglect, homelessness, family mental illness, trauma, and abandonment. Services are provided at no cost to children and families, as Medicaid insurance is required.
