CENTER FOR PREVENTIVE PSYCHIATRY
The Center for Preventive Psychiatry (CPP) was founded in 1965 as a crisis counseling program for preschool children traumatized by the death of a parent. The CPP philosophy is that flexible, comprehensive, culturally sensitive and client centered mental health intervention is the key to preventing long term debilitating problems and to providing appropriate interventions for clients suffering from emotional disturbance and mental illness.

As a division of Andrus, CPP continues to promote mental health through innovative strategies of early intervention outpatient treatment modalities, home and community based services and crisis intervention and treatment. Licensed by the New York Sate Office of Mental Health, CPP serves approximately 1,000 individuals a year in three out patient mental health clinics and one satellite clinic throughout Westchester County.

CPP programs seek to reach children and their families whose personal and/or environmental circumstances place them at risk for mental health disorders. The programs reflect some of the many innovative ways that CPP has developed to offer assistance to and serve Westchester's many families. Providing in-home instructional services to parents and consultation services to early childcare centers to prevent the development of serious emotional disturbance in children are two examples of the innovation we apply in our approach to our programs.
